The jealous, holier-than-though Meridius is clearly loving the pain he is causing both of the Brocks. Finally, in Venom #5 - written by Al Ewing with gorgeous art by Bryan Hitch - it is revealed the Meridius has been behind all of these traumatizing events, as he uses his immense time-traveling power, ability to mimic other beings, and the terrifying symbiote Bedlam to ruin the Brocks' lives and gain control of Venom for himself. But the most recent issue definitively shows that Meridius is very evil, and potentially even worse than Knull. By the end of Venom #1 it is unclear if Meridius is a new friend or a deadly new foe to the reawakened Eddie. The Enigma Force was next seen trying but failing to penetrate the barrier enacted by Knull during his invasion of Earth. His young son Dylan has donned the Venom symbiote, becoming Earth's newest Venom. King in Black After Knull awakened and destroyed Klyntar, the Enigma Force approached Zak-Del who recently fought him and was left into the void of space to die, telling him to find Eddie Brock. Eventually Eddie Brock's Venom was able to defeat him with the help of his son Dylan Brock, before becoming the next King in Black himself. The first four issues of the new Al Ewing-penned Venom series have seen Eddie allowing the Life Foundation to destroy his physical body, while his mind and consciousness continue to survive within the symbiote hive-mind. It’s a great fit for the character. The recent run of Venom follows the line-wide crossover event King in Black, which saw the cosmic symbiote god Knull take over Earth and almost kill a number of major heroes. Awakened by the Light when the Celestials invaded his kingdom of darkness, he created the first symbiote in the form of a sword and. Static is back in comics for a new generation of readers, and I think one of my favorite things about it is the clear anime and manga influence in Chrischross’ fight choreography. There are a number of different explanations for why someone as flawed as Venom could successfully wield Mjolnir, and it mostly comes down to the fact. So it’s a good thing there’s some young blood around to merge with his original symbiote and fight bad guys in New York City. Crucial to the events of King in Black was the death of Eddie Brock in the event's second issue, imbuing his character with an extra sense of purpose in King in Black 5 after he was resurrected. But, all that hivemind time is taking its toll, aging him overnight into solid Old Man Venom territory. With his new ability to see through the eyes and direct the actions of billions of symbiotes throughout the galaxy, Eddie is fighting bad guys and doing good on a much, much bigger scale. In this week’s Venom #200, a finale issue for Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman’s run on the character, we found out exactly what that means. With the end of the Venom-focused King in Black event, Eddie Brock and his symbiote have a brand new status quo: Eddie is the new King in Black, the guy that the whole symbiote species looks up to as a leader.
